From time to time, we love featuring inspiring experiences we’ve shared with clients. This past weekend we had the pleasure of meeting Amy Jane, her family, and some of her closest pals, as they celebrated her 12th birthday with a Mad Rouge Lipstick Party. Spending some time with a group of awe-inspiring youth is truly humbling for the soul. To watch a group of friends encourage and empower one another, to see them sparkle as they try and accomplish something new, and to marvel at their imagination, creativity and expressions of individuality. These are some of our favorite times as women, mothers, and new business owners trying to create a positive, supportive space that fosters communicating and building each other up. We also know many of these girls at this age are beginning to experiment with cosmetics for the first time, so it’s a critical time to share empowering messages that might help them defy narrow definitions of beauty, own their unique look, and decide what beauty means to them, not to mention learn about the safety of products they are putting on their faces.
The charge in a room of tweens was electrifying! Each celebrated one another’s individual style while collaborating as a group. Working side by side while crafting designs on their take-home cosmetic bags was a joy to watch, let alone the magical feel at the table as they gathered around the guest of honor, tasked with learning about cosmetic chemistry and simply shining together. Even though some had experience with making makeup or had watched makeup tutorials before, they all seemed to marvel that they had an array of professional tools, natural ingredients, and every color of the rainbow at their disposal. They were able to put color theory to the test mixing natural pigment dyes and mica powders without anyone else’s prescribed colors or beauty standards. One girl commented how surprised she was at how much she loved the color she created- a color she wouldn’t have imagined making ordinarily. One of our favorite messages to share is that there are no mistakes, only unexpected outcomes! On top of individual style, learning about what’s actually inside the very products we put on our bodies, when information about the safety of many store-bought cosmetics is simply not advertised, is also a crucial part of this shared activity. Lastly, we can not make up the look of awe and delight when someone sees the final product -taking a gloppy mixture of waxes and oils, adding your own color stamp, melting and pouring it into a mold, and pulling out the finished lipstick…it’s just so much fun, you have to see it for yourself! (Amy Jane is simply radiant after seeing her final creation in the image featured above.)
A huge thank you to Amy Jane and her family for letting us be a part of your special celebration. It made our day to experience this joy with you all and we will continue to feel inspired by the light you shared with one another.
Mix with madness,
